No sales on Etsy? Check these 12 things first

When sales aren't coming, it's usually not one single thing. Work through the points below in order to rule out the most likely causes. Instead of guessing at a diagnosis, mark which causes could apply to you and fix them one at a time.

First, separate: visibility or conversion?

This one distinction makes everything easier. If you're getting almost no views, the problem is most likely visibility (market, niche, title, tags). If you're getting views but no sales, the problem is conversion (photos, price, description, trust). Figure out which side you're on first, then focus on the relevant checks.

1. Wrong market / low demand

Possible sign: very few views, no favorites at all. Why it matters: in a market without demand, even a perfect listing doesn't sell. Check: are similar products getting interest — is this space actually being searched?

2. Competition that's too strong

Possible sign: the first page is full of established shops with thousands of reviews. Why it matters: a new listing can't outrun that reputation quickly. Check: do newer sellers appear near the top too, or is the space completely locked?

3. Weak product positioning

Possible sign: your product looks like something "everyone already sells". Why it matters: without a distinguishing angle, price becomes the only criterion. Check: is it clear who you're selling to and for what occasion (gift, personalization)?

4. Price mismatch

Possible sign: a price far below or above the market. Why it matters: an unjustified high price scares buyers off; a too-low price signals low value. Check: is your price inside the market range and consistent with your positioning?

5. Main image isn't strong enough

Possible sign: views but few clicks. Why it matters: an image that doesn't stand out at thumbnail size doesn't get clicked. Check: is the main image clear, bright and eye-catching at small size?

6. Title doesn't match buyer intent

Possible sign: empty traffic from irrelevant searches. Why it matters: the wrong words bring the wrong audience. Check: does the title contain the intent-loaded terms buyers actually type?

7. Tags are too generic

Possible sign: only broad, high-competition terms. Why it matters: a new listing stays invisible on generic terms. Check: are all 13 tags filled, and do they cover different intents?

8. Incomplete listing

Possible sign: empty attributes, a short description, few photos. Why it matters: an incomplete listing is weak in both search and trust. Check: are the category, attributes, description and gallery complete?

9. Product doesn't differentiate

Possible sign: nearly the same product and presentation as competitors. Why it matters: a buyer needs a reason to choose you. Check: are you creating a difference through personalization, material, size or presentation?

10. Trust / review problem

Possible sign: a new shop, few reviews, an incomplete profile. Why it matters: buyers feel the risk and go with whoever looks safe. Check: what can you do to strengthen your profile, policies and first reviews?

11. Shipping / processing friction

Possible sign: a high shipping cost or a long processing time. Why it matters: cost and waiting create cart abandonment. Check: are your shipping cost and timelines reasonable and clearly stated?

12. Expecting results too early / not testing enough

Possible sign: giving up after a few days. Why it matters: without patient, one-variable-at-a-time tests, you can't know what works. Check: are you changing one thing at a time and waiting long enough?

Where to start

Measure first, then change things one by one. If you change everything at once, you won't know what worked. Seeing your shop as a whole makes it clear where to start.
